1. All Star Game, Saturday – 27 November 2010
What a game!!! In a very close, competitive game the National League side came out on
top with a 5 – 1 win over the American League team. The American League batted first
and went up 1 - 0 in the 1st innings with no.3 batter Mike Valentine hitting starting pitcher
Gary Maree for a home run. The National’s immediately leveled the game with a couple
of base hits. Gary Maree came back strong with not allowing only allowing one more hit
in his 2 innings pitched. Llewellyn Gerber (starting pitcher American League) did well
allowing only 1 run in 2 innings pitched. In relief for the American League, Craig Goodspeed
allowed the National League to score another run giving up 1 hit and allowing 3 walks. Deon
Landsberg then brought in the go ahead run with an excellent sacrifice bunt in the 4th innings.
In the 5th innings 3 more runs were scored by the Brewers with Dwayne Koot (1 for 3) hitting
a 2 run double. Kyle Garret (2 for 3) and Campbell v/d Merwe (1 for 1) were the other contributers
for the National’s. Kyle Garret (relief) and Louis Botha (closing) shut the American League out
for 4 innings, aloowing only 2 hits and recording 4 strike outs between them. For the American
League team Stephanus Nothnagel (1 for 2), Mike Valentine (1 for 1) and Llewellyn Gerber (1 for 2)
Contributed with the bat.
All in all, it was a game played with very few errors committed. The pitching was of a very high
standard, which shows that Gauteng North Baseball is on the right track to become a force as a
provincial team in the near future.
2. Home Run Derby
Out of the 12 competitors JP Lourens (Tigers) and Deon Landsberg (Brewers) made it through
to the final round. Deon eventually came out on top hitting one more home run than JP. Well done
to both for an awesome display of power batting.

After suffering three defeats the Dodgers u/10 side managed to come up with a convincing win over the Eagles in Benoni on Saturday. The Dodgers 18 - 11 win came from an outstanding batting performance by Jason Mosterd hitting two home runs in the first two frames and scoring six runs followed by Sebastian Knoop who also hit a home run to score four runs. The rest of the batting line up looked strong with the batters hitting solid hits to get on base and score. In the third frame the Dodgers scored more runs and again Jason Mosterd hit a home run to score another three runs. The fourth frame saw Dodgers put up a great fielding display showing how it should be done by getting three outs within four batters Oyhagiso making two clean pick ups in the field completed with accurate throwing to first base. Two batters later another pick up was made by Tristan Valentine to end the game. Well done to these youngsters, keep going.
